Frequently Asked Questions

Listing & Selling

Is it really free to list a gun? Yes. No listing fees, no commission, no premium-placement upsells. We make money on the other sites in our ecosystem (GunClear $10 serial checks, GunTransfer $50 flat-fee transfers) — not on your sale.

How long does a listing stay active? 60 days by default. Refresh, edit, or remove anytime from My Listings. Featured listings ($9.99) get pinned for 14 days.

Can I list NFA items? Yes, but note the NFA category clearly. NFA transfers require ATF Form 4, $200 tax stamp, and 6-12 month wait — always work with a Class III FFL.

Do I need an FFL to sell? No. GunShare is for private individual sellers. If you sell as your livelihood you need an FFL.

Buying

How do I know a gun isnt stolen? Run a GunClear stolen-gun check for $10 before money changes hands. Any seller refusing this is a major red flag.

What if the seller and I are in different states? Federal law requires interstate sales to ship to an FFL in the buyers state. Use our Find an FFL tool or let GunTransfer handle the whole thing for $50 flat.

Am I in a UBC state? 17 states (CA, CO, CT, DE, HI, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NM, NY, NV, OR, RI, VA, VT, WA) require background checks on most private sales. GunShare flags this automatically.

Safety, Disputes & Privacy

What if I get scammed? GunShare doesnt hold funds or process payments. Best protections: meet in person, inspect before paying, run a GunClear check, never wire money, never let anyone pressure you. If a price looks too good to be true, it is.

Can I report a suspicious listing? Yes — every listing has a Report link. We review every report within 24 hours.

Do you share my contact info? No. Buyers contact you through GunShares internal messaging.

How do I delete my account? Sign in to your GunVault settings and select Close Account. Removes you from all 5 sites.
